The Goan Overseas Association (G.O.A.) Chicago began in the mid-1970s as informal gatherings among Goans—mainly from East Africa, Goa, and Karachi—who settled in Chicago and sought to preserve their culture through food, music, and fellowship.
Early meetings led to the first picnic and dance around 1974, culminating in formal incorporation by 1977–1979. Starting with 15–30 members from a few families, G.O.A. established its core events: Christmas Dance, Taste of Goa, and picnics, traditions that continue today.
